Increasing Access to Preventative Dental Care

About

Bridging Brighter Smiles, Inc is a Wisconsin-based, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that provides preventative dental care to children throughout the state of Wisconsin. Our vision is to create a community where every child is given the opportunity to receive preventative dental care. Our mobile dental hygiene program travels to schools, Head Start programs, and county health departments to deliver care on site.

History

Bridging Brighter Smiles, Inc. (BBS) was founded in 2012. Originally called Smiles 4 Life, BBS started with 1 team consisting of 1 registered dental hygienist and 1 dental assistant in Dodge County, Wisconsin. We originally started as a school-based program, starting with 14 school districts. We have since grown to serve over 135 school districts in 44 counties with over 25 teams. In 2023, we expanded our reach to provide services to health department participants, Head Start students, and Early Head Start enrolled pregnant mothers and children. We have served tens of thousands of children a year since our creation, and we are continuing to grow, acquiring new schools and health departments each year.

Since the beginning, BBS has been a participating provider for ForwardHealth / BadgerCare and, in 2017, was one of the first programs to be registered as a mobile dental hygiene unit under Wisconsin’s new regulation. BBS initial service offerings included oral screenings, cleanings, fluoride varnish, oral hygiene education, sealants and referral assistance, but we have since expanded to include silver diamine fluoride.

Our dedicated hygienists have always practiced with a patient-centered mindset, and we have never turned down a child based on insurance status. We have always been committed to providing quality preventative oral care to all underserved children in Wisconsin and continuously working on our mission:

Bridging the gap in dental care by offering access to services, building wellness relationships within communities, and educating students to instill life-long healthy habits.
